Helichrysum or Corsican immortelle is a perennial plant whose place in the Mediterranean region. It has a reputation that has lasted for centuries. A flower with a thousand virtues and an iconic feature of the island, this species is protected and its harvesting is strictly monitored.

Thriving just as well at sea level as at altitudes of over 1,000 metres, the flowers of the immortelle may surprise you with their hardiness and ability to adapt to their environment. Its flowers are clustered in yellow pompons resembling balls. As such, this flower has earned the name ‘immortelle’ due to the long-lasting nature of its blooms. A true symbol of constancy in love, its presence at weddings makes it a prized variety as far afield as China, where it is a guarantee of long life and prosperity.
History:
Used since ancient times by the Greeks and Romans, the immortelle flower is mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey as well as in Greek mythology, where the god Apollo wore a tiara made of these flowers to symbolise his immortality.
In practice, many ancient doctors, pharmacologists and botanists used and praised it, notably: Theophrastus (371–288 BC), who made an ointment with honey and helichrysum to soothe wounds and burns, and Another Greek physician, pharmacologist and botanist, Dioscorides (20–90 AD), and the Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder used it to produce a medicinal wine to relieve sciatica and joint pain.
